Light Continuous

Light means Light, excessive contact will result in disqualification.


Match Duration:

 

National Tournaments

  • 1 round of 1.5 minutes for all stages

International Tournaments

  • Eliminations: 1 round of 1.5 minutes

  • Finals: 2 rounds of 1 minutes with 30 seconds rest

 

Gala Matches: 2 rounds per match

 

Round lengths may be adjusted with approval of the WKO Chief Official

 

Head shots are allowed for all ages

The match can only end early by referee or doctor stoppage due to No Contest


Scoring System

Fights are scored using the 10-point must system

Winner of the round gets 10 points

Opponent gets 9 or less based on performance

If even, both receive 10

 

In case of a draw, extra rounds may be added. Judges will only score the extra rounds. If still a draw, winner is chosen based on overall performance.


Knockdown Rules

No official knockdown rule due to the light contact nature

Referee may issue a standing 8-count if a fighter needs to recover.

Standing 8-count does not count as 10-8 round

Fighter can only be saved by the bell in the final round


Substitute Matches

Reserve fights may be held before elimination matches

If a winner can’t continue, a reserve fighter or their last opponent may take their place

Fighters who lost by KO are generally not eligible to return


Equipment Requirements

Headgear

Juniors - Mandatory

Adults - Optional but recommended

 

Gumshields are compulsory

T-shirts or vests must be worn

Breast protectors are optional but recommended for females

 

Gloves:

  • 8oz for 8yrs and under

  • 10oz for 9yrs and over

Hand wraps: Only cotton or bandage wraps with zinc oxide tape, No tape on knuckles, No gaffa tape allowed

 

Long kickboxing trousers are required

Groin guards: Mandatory for males,  optional for females

Shin guards: No metal inserts

Foot pads: Mandatory

Ankle supports: Optional


Allowed Techniques

Punches: Straights, hooks, uppercuts

Kicks (above the waist only): Front, side, back, high, jumping, spinning

All strikes must be controlled at all times, excessive force will result in disqualification.


Fouls & Disqualifications

Any excessive or uncontrolled technique may lead to disqualification at the referee's discretion. The referee's decision is final.

Fouls are penalised in this order:

Cautions = 2 warnings

Warnings = 1 point deduction

2 point deductions in one round = disqualification

Malicious fouls may result in immediate penalties

 

Foul Techniques Include:

Any low kick or use of the knee

Headbutts, elbows, groin strikes

Throws, wrestling, judo, or submissions

Thumbing, choking, biting

Hitting downed or recovering opponents

Attacking after “break” is called

Holding ropes

Abusive language toward officials

Punching the back of the head

Forcing opponent out of the ring

Turning your back deliberately to avoid fighting

Spinning strikes using unauthorized parts (e.g., elbow)

Other penalised actions:

Charging in with head low (potential headbutt)

Repeated holding without attacking (to avoid engagement)

Grabbing and holding the opponent’s leg

Falling intentionally to avoid being hit

Passive clinching without follow-up strikes


Hydration Policy

  1. Intentional dehydration to cut weight is banned – offenders will be disqualified

  2. After weigh-in, fighters must rehydrate with water or isotonic drinks

  3. On fight day, only water is allowed during bouts

  4. No fizzy drinks, alcohol, or isotonic drinks permitted at ringside during competition

No Pre-Workout drinks/powders allowed to be consumed before a bout is to be contested


Final Notes

All rules must be followed – disciplinary action will be taken for breaches

Light Continuous is about skill, control, and continuous clean technique, Fighter safety, fairness, and sportsmanship are the top priorities
