EVENT INFORMATION

What is Pain & Fortune?

Is a Gala showcase event that focuses on grass roots Amateur Ringsports with the aim to have a clear progression route from Amateur to Professional fighter:

As we have 1000's of Athletes and Champions within the WKO data base, we feel the need to be able to offer them the next step up the ladder in to contesting for WKO Title Fights within a Gala Showcase setting.

WKO Events have become a one stop shop, to cut your teeth on the Open Tournaments then climb the Title Ranks within Gala events.

Fights we will showcase will range from junior and adult:

  • General 3 round contests to increase fighters W/L/D ratios

  • Title eliminator bouts

  • Title defence bouts

  • Vacant title fights

Each of the above following a strict code or ethics in regard each and every fighters fight stats to be able to offer fair and credible fights and opportunities.

Pain & Fortune is a direct result of investment from WKO, many if not all associations only sell titles and insurance to promoters. Yes we also offer that service but we dont know of any other association that directly organises and promotes such an event from direct investment from within.

To view an event we directly fund to create growth of fighters and title opportunities see below Pain & Fortune V filmed through WKO-TV.

How to be a part of future Pain & Fortune events?

WKO Pain & Fortune events are as listed above focussed on the development of Amateur fighters to support them through their journey, and when ready to progress into the professional ranks.

WKO will host 2 Pain & Fortune events annually inviting all clubs, coaches and fighters that attend WKO open championships events and all clubs, coaches and fighters that may focus solely on the gala circuit, with the aim to remove any obstacles.

We want to ensure there are no boundaries to entry so we can match make the best vs the best so we know who the best is.

Points to consider:

WKO understand that fighters may enter events personally.

And that when we send out the invitations these may go direct to fighters or even mums and dads.

In order for any fights being formally accepted for any Pain & Fortune event, all fighters must first notify their coach upon receipt of any invitation from WKO. Upon the coaches agreement and consent bouts can be formally finalised.

Any bouts which are agreed without both coaches consent, will be cancelled and the space on the event offered to other fighters.

Matches must be made in accordance and agreement from coaches. Coaches have the authority to understand the requirements and agree the terms and conditions of each bout accordingly.

Those eligible will be able to feature on the Pain & Fortune Super Gala and battle it out in Title Elimination bouts and if currently eligible contest for WKO Titles such as:

The venue we will be hosting these special Super Gala's will be at the Montgomery Hall theatre in Rotherham.

The venue is a small theatre so expect an electric and captivating atmosphere, with full stage glitz and glamour for the fighters ring entrances.

As the venue is 250 person max, there is no pressure on fighters to sell tickets. You will never hear a promoter say these words, but its true.

WKO are in a fortunate position to be able to offer all eligible the opportunity to fight not only on a gala event but also for world renowned titles, and no pressure for ticket sales on none title fight opportunities.

Reality is though if you bring support with you, they will cheer you on and share the glory with you, so tickets to the event are of course available

Each Pain & Fortune event will feature 20 - 30 bouts consisting of:

  • None title bouts

  • WKO Title elimination bouts

  • WKO Title bouts

So, the big question is who wants to feature on these events???

Location & Venue

Spectator Fees:

All tickets will be:

  • Junior Day Show = £25

  • Adult Evening Show = £35

As the venue is 250 capacity virtually everyone is ringside whether sat in the front row, in the tiered seating or standing room.

Tickets will be time bound, so the first to book will get the front row seating, and so on from that to tiered seating to standing room only.

Sold on 1 price first come first served.

Junior Day and Evening are classed as 2 separate events, discount will be available if wishing to attend both events.

Ticket sales requirements:

Overall WKO will invest into the event so the basic costs to host such events are covered. But as you grow and progress through ranks and titles, these incurred costs will need to co-funded through either ticket sales or sponsorship. See below for further details and explanation why its needed. But also to assure you we will support you in being able to achieve the requirements

None title bout - There is no minimum tickets sales required

Title elimination bout - There is no minimum tickets sales required

(although no minimum requirement, we recommended bring as much support as you can, as fighting can feel very lonely when you have no supporters backing you)

Title fight ticket sales or sponsorship requirements

Title fights incur great costs to any promoter than none title fights or title eliminators.

Reasons being factors which have to be considered are:

  • The title sanction fees

  • Travel expenses such as flights for opponents

  • Hotel fees

  • Fight purses

So with all the above title fight negotiations have to be agreed so both fair and achievable for the fighters and the promoter

For example a regional title fight would in the whole only cost the sanction fee which for amateur is £150. So if each fighter sold 5 tickets each it would cover the costs and contribute slightly to the event costs.

Promoters have to cover many fundamental costs to host an event, such as:

  • Venue fees

  • Insurance

  • Medics

  • Ring Hire

  • Officials

  • Promotions costs

  • Security

  • Medals and Trophies

  • Filming

  • Staff

So if both fighters sold 5 tickets each that would generate £250 - sanction fee of £150 so would contribute £100 to the event costs/budget.

In short that is not enough and promoters are not able to sustain events on that basis.

A professional World title alone would cost:

  • £1000 Sanction & Insurance

  • £1,000 Fighter A Purse

  • £1,000 Fighter B Purse

  • £1,000 Coach and Fighter Flights

  • £1,000 Hotels, Meals and other travel expenses

So at basic level would cost a promoter £5,000, which would mean a fighter would have to sell 143 tickets just to cover the basic costs of that one fight.

The aim of Pain & Fortune is to coach fighters into building up both their ranking position and followers to make their dreams come reality.

Any fighter that has both the skills to win, the dedication to be reliable and a strong following will have promoters fighting over who hosts their next fight.

Basic structure fighters should aim for:

  • None title fight 10 - 30 tickets

  • Regional title fight 25 - 40 tickets
    (started to gain local sponsorship)

  • National title fight 40+ Tickets included Sponsor/s

  • European title fight 75+ Tickets included Sponsor/s

  • World title fight 100+ Tickets included Sponsor/s

All this may same very daunting at first but this is all very attainable. Its achieved through understanding its a requirement, and setting goals and asking for support/advice on how to achieve it. With all the social media that's free to access, the above has never been so easy to achieve.

Selling 100 tickets is very hard but if you sold 20 tickets and had 10 sponsors of £300 each you would have any decent promoter falling over themselves to promote you.
